You’re ready to take the plunge and get your first tattoo! But where do you begin?
First, it’s important to decide what tattoo style you want. Realistic, old school, new school, in color or black and gray… At La Bête Humaine, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Once you’ve settled on a style, you can contact the tattoo artist directly or reach out to us, and our manager, Satomi, will set up a consultation with the artist who best matches your vision.
What happens during a consultation?
This first meeting is all about discussing and planning your future tattoo: its size, placement, and overall look. The artist can also advise you on the feasibility of your idea based on your body shape and the area you’ve chosen for the tattoo. It’s also the perfect time to ask any questions you might have about the process, healing, or long-term care for your tattoo.
How to prepare for tattoo day?
The day of your tattoo is important, so here are a few tips to prepare:
- Get a good night’s sleep the night before to be well-rested.
- Hydrate your skin in the days leading up to the appointment because healthy skin is easier to tattoo. You can also exfoliate a few days beforehand.
- Dress comfortably, keeping in mind the area where you’ll be tattooed, so the artist can easily access it. Bring out your comfy old joggers, an oversized t-shirt, cozy socks, even a pillow—anything to help you relax!
- Bring something to distract yourself (a book, music), especially if it’s going to be a long session.

Things to avoid before getting a tattoo:
- Drinking the night before: Alcohol thins your blood, and if you bleed too much, the artist won’t be able to see the colors clearly, meaning you’ll likely need touch-ups.
- Skipping meals or eating poorly: Your body needs energy to handle the session, so eat well. Foods like pasta, avocado, fish, or meat are great options.
- Using numbing cream: It can harden the skin, making it harder for the tattoo to heal properly, and once the cream wears off, the pain will be even worse! Getting a tattoo isn’t pleasant, but it’s definitely bearable, trust us.
- Being on your period: Yes, being a woman isn’t always easy. When you’re on your period, you’re often more sensitive to pain.
After the tattoo: the importance of care
Once your tattoo is finished, it’s crucial to follow your artist’s aftercare instructions. Proper care during the healing process ensures vibrant colors and healthy skin. Here are some tips to follow:
- Gently wash your tattoo with a neutral pH soap (intimate soaps also work well).
- Regularly moisturize the area with the cream recommended by your tattoo artist.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and refrain from swimming (pools, ocean) for the first few weeks.
If you have any doubts or questions, don’t hesitate to contact your artist—they’re here to guide you.
So, are you ready to take the leap? We’re waiting for you!
